Setting up your VAN sync

Empower Engine can set up a sync with your VAN data no matter what vendor you are using. So whether you’re on VoteBuilder, SmartVAN, or any other version, we’ll download the datasets you want to see on a regular basis (daily or weekly) so you can see your progress.

Here’s all you need to do:

Create a saved list of your targets in the “Lists to Map” folder we create

OR

If you have a data staff member, they can create a list of your targets in a shared database (e.g. Civis or DNC BigQuery) and share it with us.

You don’t have to do any aggregation of data on your end; just give us the raw data, and we’ll do the rest.

From the beginning, we set you up with what you want to see. After the setup process you’ll immediately be able to map your initial universes, your 1s & 2s, and your universe penetration (split out by method if desired). Over time, as you zero in on your strategy, you'll update your universes and add new ones. When relevant, we'll add date-specific penetration (e.g. penetration since the primary). If early vote data is available in your state, once GOTV begins, we'll also show you where your voters have/have-not voted.

How does it work?

We automatically download your data every night.

If you update your universe, just save over the saved list or update your table in SQL, and all your maps will update overnight.

If you make a new universe, save it in that folder, email us, and we’ll set up the new

datasets for you right away. If you’ve got a data staff member, we’ll soon roll out the ability for them to set up the datasets themselves..

Over time, you can watch the density of your supporters deepen as Election Day nears.
