Helping ADLCC Support more than 30 campaigns at once

For the first time in the modern era, political campaigns are being run remotely as we grapple with the Coronavirus pandemic. But for legislative caucuses like ours, remote campaigning is nothing new. Every cycle, the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (ADLCC) supports Democratic candidates in Arizona’s 30 legislative districts, many with multiple candidates. Providing campaign support - including data analysis and coordination - to our candidates presents a fresh logistical challenge every two years. But this year, Empower Engine’s data visualization platform has increased our ability to support our candidates. They have made data visualization easy. 

Maps for Our Campaigns

The AZDLCC provides support to our campaigns in a number of different ways; we help them understand their district and make good decisions based on data. Thanks to the Empower Engine platform, we’ve added maps to the ways we help. Maps can synthesize data for a campaign in a way that nothing else can. But as most of us know, they are a luxury that is often too time-consuming to have, especially when you’re dealing with 30 districts. 

We use Empower Engine because we needed a way to quickly communicate data with our campaigns. Their map distribution system gives me the ability to create these 8 maps, which show data from the VAN instantly for any district in Arizona. In a single click, these maps are recreated for each campaign, scaled to their district.

Our campaigns can use those maps to track their progress because they automatically update every night. Each campaign now has a visual representation of their 1s and 2s, their model scores, their persuasion universe, and more. The maps are helping them make decisions as we move towards the general election. 

I like how Empower Engine is built for people who don’t have time to become GIS experts. With little training, our campaigns can quickly create custom interactive maps based on whatever they want to know about their district. It’s easy to use.   

In a campaign where everything is upside down, the ability to visually assess their data has been especially helpful. 

The platform has given us a new way to coordinate with our campaigns and it will make a difference as we make decisions through Election Day.
